Album & Book Options

I was giving a tour of the Columbia lab this afternoon and ran into two Flush Mount album orders in process.  Both happened to have the Etched Aluminum cover.  It's simply cool!  I'm also a big fan of the Brushed Copper cover.  I realize it's not the cheapest item in the world to try on a whim, but they are cool.

Similarly, an order came through the lab a few days ago that caught our attention.  At first glance, it appeared to be a case of duplicate orders.  Each were 8x8 LayFlat Books with identical cover choices (Baby Blue leather with Silver Foil Stamping, including identical wording).  Upon inspection, though, the books were each slightly different for the different family members -- one for dad, one for Grandpa #1, and one for Grandpa#2.  At least that's what we guessed.  Without many changes, they were able to use basically the same layout and order three different fantastic finished products.

We knew the idea of 'companions' had merit, especially for parent wedding albums.  It was great to see someone using a slightly different twist, which was presumably made easier by ordering with our Remote Studio software.

The hardest thing at the moment when ordering an Album or Book is figuring out which of the many, many options we now offer I want to try.  (And I hope you're having similar problems, but are ordering one of each to sort it out!).

When will Remote Studio be available for Mac's? I was directed to use Lab Prints but it doesn't give you the cover options that you offer. I am not 100% satisfied with the alternative option.

I can't answer that question.  We hope to provide an additional solution for you, but I don't have a timetable.  We do offer an alternative option, which I assume you've discussed with CS.  I'd encourage giving them a call again if you're not 100% satisfied (as you indicate), perhaps there's more we can do.

Beyond that, though, Apple is pretty good at advertising that software for PCs will work on a Mac.  We also hear from customers that this is a workable solution.  From apple.com "but if you need to use a particular Windows-only application, you have a few options: Boot Camp comes with every new Mac, and it lets you run Windows natively — as if your Mac were a PC. If you want to run Mac OS X and Windows side by side, you can purchase Parallels Desktop for Mac or VMware Fusion. Install one of these applications, along with the Windows Installation CDs, and you can run the occasional Windows program right next to your Mac applications, without having to restart."

Hope that helps.

Although you are correct in that "Apple is pretty good at advertising that software for PCs will work on a Mac," I find it disappointing that better options are not offered for ordering from a Mac. Yes, you can run Mac OS X and Windows side by side, however, it is definitely not ideal. Jennica, I feel your pain... it is frustrating! However, I do enjoy Miller's otherwise; the customer service is fantastic! Hopefully Miller's will be able to offer more inclusive Mac ordering options soon.

Yes, you've hit a nerve here.  In looking for a "one-stop" shop, Miller's has ignored the pleas from their MAC users.  It's the same answer every time and I've been using Miller's for almost 3 years.  When attending the photog trade shows, the show of hands indicates that the majority are Mac users.

Please consider outsourcing this task to have a contract engineer write the software that allows for online ordering of the products offered only to PC users.  Don't be arrogant and complacent - the competition is growing.  I'm considering switching to White House, which offers cross platform services.
